What is addiction?
Addictions are demonic manipulations on human to puncture their emotions, spiritual, mental and physical aspects of their life. Addictions can be developed over time. There are many things that the bible cautions us to abstain. These are things are recorded in . When we are under the grow of these influences, they become masters over our emotion. So there is one antidote that the bible recommends according to Galatians 5: 22. This antidote is called self-control which is one of the fruit of Holy Spirit. Research shows that over 2% of the world population are addicted to one social issues or the other.
What are the causes of addictions?
Addictions are not just natural occurrences. They are demonic supported. No one battling with masturbation, sexual immorality and the likes is just normal in behavior or emotionally. Unclean spirits have a hand in manipulating emotional senses to doing these things. The funny part of it is that, when the demon spirits come and suggest to such to the mind, one gives in to it; so they hold you in bondage. You started masturbating because you sensed that by doing so, you reduce sexual urges or helps your emotional sexual life; but is it true now? A demon was responsible to the suggestion and held you there as you give in to the suggestion.
The devil only came to steal, kill and to destroy. These things came to your life to destroy you and keep you in perpetual slavery in sin. So if you are still living in addictions, it means that the devil blinded your eyes so that you will not see the light of gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 4:4).
There are common reasons why people engaged in some addictions apart from demons. They include: peer group, emotional instability, the feeling of belonging to the trending acts and many others.
What are effects of addictions?
It is only Christians with strong conviction and with the knowledge of the devices of the devil that understands the effect of addictions very well. There are many factors, spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional. Addictions have negative effect on emotions, way of life and spiritual growth. Many do not believe on these effect because of how pleasurable it seems to them to engage in such activities until the devil make a mess of their life. Addictions lower the activities of the Holy Spirit in you. This means that you are under the influence of demonic spirits. Anyone under the influence of addiction has a ugly mental disorder such as bad habit.
What are the ways to break addictions?
There are many ways of breaking from addictions. I will like to bring to your notice the significance of the cross or the finished work of Christ on the cross for your salvation both from addictions and sinful acts. Salvation for your soul has been obtained by Christ Jesus on any issue of life. This means that for you to enjoy these benefits of the cross, you have to come to Christ. What are the finished works of Christ? These are the inadequacies of human that Christ Jesus secured for us on the cross by dying. You hear of reconciliation, salvation and others. 1 Corinthians 1: 30 says “ But of Him you are in Christ, who became for us the wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption” so Christ is already your redemption which believing and trusting in Him has given the access of breaking off from the addiction.
How does this work? I know you are asking this question now, how does this help my situation? This can be helpful when you come to the understanding of what Christ obtained for you, believing in it then going ahead in prayers to God for mercy. If you are a Christian and you are passing through this, there is hope; the Holy Spirit is in charge here. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says “but the natural man (carnal person or unbeliever) does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him. Nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned “. Receiving deliverance from the dimension of the finished work of Christ, you need to understand and perfectly discern your position in Christ. That is why an unbeliever will keep being in bondage because he lacks the understanding of the revelation of Christ.
Breaking from addictions is not a matter of New Year resolutions. Or, disciplines that lack Holy Spirit help or backup. The following steps can help you break out from addiction.
Believing in God
Believing in God is the very start of every deliverance. Deliverance is from God. The Bibles says that, anyone who comes to Him must believe that He is. God is truth and believing in the Truth will set you free.
James 5: 13 says “ Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful, let him sing psalms”. What does this passage show you, prayer is the key to solving any problem? Some people say that if you are still in addiction, the reason is that you have not prayed enough, neither have you understood the power of prayer. Also, that you have not come to understand the power of God in your life. Prayer offered in faith is powerful.
Understanding and right application of the word of God (Faith):
Meditating on the word of GOD is a powerful tool to deliverance. “But we with unveil face, beholding as in a mirror the image of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one level of glory to another; just as the Spirit of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 3:18).
“Therefore brethren, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit, you put to death the deeds of the (BODY) flesh, you will live (Romans 8:12-14). According to Romans 8:10-11: speaks that the Spirit of God is the guarantee for us be counted as the children of God. In verse 11, show that the Holy Spirit is the channel through which GOD gave life of our mortal bodies. So, in order to break from addiction, engage God in prayer but you must be a believer of Jesus so as to have the Spirit of God.
To break from addictions, you need to be quickened in your spirit.
This quickens in your mortal body from the Holy Spirit helps you break out by giving life to your mortal body. The anointing of God too, breaks every yoke. The Lord says in Isaiah that He will tear their yoke off their neck. Addictions are yoke of the devil.
Avoidance and abstinence:
When you have received the grace and power of God; be disciplined and diligent enough to avoid and abstain from the vomit of your past such as pornography or masturbation. When you are freed, keep reading the word of God and pray. This will help you to build your spiritual authority and faith; so that when the demons that caused you to be addicted, they will not see anything takes hold of you.
Change and associate with good friends:
One of the first things to do when you have noticed that you are into addictions is to change the kind of association you engage with. Pressure from pear groups is strong. So change your association because whoever that is in Christ is a new creation, so you need to know that old things has passed away and new things are about to begin in your life.
