LEARN OF ME: THE PRACTICE OF REST THROUGH BEARING THE LORD’S BURDEN AND TAKING THE LORD’S YOKE -Apostle Arome Osayi

Two Dimensions Of Rest

The two dimensions of rest was the first series of an online teaching by Apostle Arome Osayi. The article is to teach the body of Christ the ways of Christ and how to fulfill ministry. This article is copied as written by God’s servant Apostle Arome Osayi.

Christianity is the only faith system on earth that is propelled by grace. Grace is the operational resource that makes converting principles to practice possible. By grace, the believer is empowered to put to practice all of God’s principles! The grace of God is embodied by Jesus Christ – who is not only confined to the dead pages of history but is alive and accessible to all who believe. Jesus is alive, forever, not just to continually make available the resources of God to the believer but as a living example, template and personification of all the possibilities and victories of the Christian life and experience.

As pilgrims on earth, we must constantly learn of our perfect example: JESUS CHRIST! We must also learn to appropriate all the riches of His grace by learning and practicing a very fundamental Christian principle called rest.

THE TWO DIMENSIONS OF REST

There are two major dimensions of rest as follows:

I. ENTERING INTO GOD’S REST

For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. (Hebrews 4:10, NKJV)

This verse of Scripture clearly describes the first dimension of rest which is essentially plugging into all that Jesus has paid for with His blood by faith. It defines what it means to enter into God’s rest: To completely cease from one’s own labours – not trying too hard by human means to reinvent the wheel of God’s grace and mercy – this is infinite futility!

Entering into God’s rest does mean ceasing from one’s works but it sure does not mean entering into spiritual inertia, coma or hibernation. This is where the second dimension comes to play.

II. BEARING THE LORD’S BURDEN AND TAKING THE LORD’S YOKE

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and LEARN OF ME; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30, KJV)

This passage bears the pulse of our contemplation. Jesus in the passage above introduces the second dimension of rest. This dimension of rest comes from learning the Lord’s ways and taking up His yoke and bearing His burden – walking with Him and working for Him. This is almost like the direct opposite of the first principle of rest we have already considered. However, it is not an opposite or alternative reality; it is simply a development on the first one. This means that, this second dimension of rest cannot be experienced without a prior experience of the first one. This in practical terms means we can only get to do God’s work if we allow Him lead us on and empower us from within by giving our souls rest and peace.
